My favorite Woody Allen moment is where he sees a beautiful woman and says “I was calling my psychiatrist on 9-11.”
But the Jews do have the sense that they belong to God and God will rescue them still, even though they are not sure of the details.
Being a failed species reminds me of Oscar Wilde: “In creating man, I think God overestimated his abilities.”
Crime and Punishment tests the idea that one can commit a crime and is ok if he gets away with it – and the test fails. Raskolnikov can’t live with himself after killing the old woman.
